In fact, the book The Case of Miss R sums it up in the very first paragraph: “The infant wants security, warmth, familiar surroundings, good care, self confidence, social interaction, the mastery of mother and family, socialization, the assurance that mother and home are safe”. The concept of LIFESTYLE then was to provide the most basic needs of a baby so that he could survive in the outside world. From the foregoing it can be seen that the word LIFESTYLE has various interpretations across the generations. Our values shifted and our habits followed suit. Now, instead of a LIFESTYLE being a family activity, it was now associated with partying, drinking, frequent trips to the liquor store and a general lack of concern for one’s own health and well-being.

The problem is that these lifestyle changes lead not only to increased body fat but also a loss of self-confidence and motivation. Specifically, we will discuss (in an introductory post) whether Adler’s “atonement” theory is a satisfactory model of human happiness, whether there are reliable psychological tests of happiness and unhappiness, and whether there are important philosophical issues involved in the search for defining a satisfactory level of human happiness.
